The sun brimmed its dawn brightness with tinge of coolness and we drove towards the Bangalore Steiner School as curious as a kid.
It is this day that many, rather all parents, look forward to where we get to meet & engage with other parents and enjoy the kids perform on the rhythm of season as one family. Dussehra is special to all parents of Bangalore Steiner School as it allows us to experience what this school for our kids is answering our billion-dollar question why do kids love this school.

As we entered the school, Arts which were in display aesthetically conversed with us on reasons why/how Dussehra is celebrated, right from Hulivesha of Karnataka to Maulwrurf of Germany, isn’t that so cool!

As we walked in, vibrant, colourful large-sized rangolis inviting us to enthralling sessions ahead. The colours defined the diversity that Dussehra carries and girth of Rangolis defined the enormousness of celebration across our country. These evoked much needed energy of parents.
The ever energetic BSS kids looked even more active and colourful than a usual day at BSS, all busy doing their share of work to make the school look full of life. Few helping their favorite Amma's to few tailing their teachers asking what to do, what a scene it was! Display of Involvement at students level was quite visible and that is testimony of great culture in place. Their dressing gave us the difficult task of guessing what each of their role is going to be on stage, is it play or dance or music or all together a dhamaka coming in way! Tiny ones of who were engulfed with innocence to high graders who were blossoming thru their teens, all had a specialty in them.

The Gombe/Doll display at the school had all its essence of miniature life in place, right from a zoo where animas were grazing to village set to marriage set to Krishna Avatars to Nava Durga’s all of it were beautifully decked on the steps. It threw open the significance of celebration in all ways of life and love.

The program schedule had it all from songs to poems to drama to dance encompassing most languages and cultures - defining the inclusivity of the event. It did not spare a grade or kid, all were involved and each had a part in the event which was significant at same levels. Song by Grade 1 blessed us, kolatta by Grade 2 evoked child in us, recitation with action by grade 3 and 4 gave us the knowledge, play by grades 5, 6 and 8 left us with awe, Garba by grade 7 & 10 made us tap our feet and almost instigating us to join the dance and song/Poem by grade 9 & 11 invoked us with solemnity. Overall, a 100% purpose led entertainment.
The hunger which was masked with the joy of seeing kids perform discerned once we saw the time that ticked away so fast, the food that was simple yet soulful left us speechless and inspired on minimalism.
When we left the school with our kids we were overflowed with contentment and peace of mind but with a question how do we engage the kids for next three weeks the BSS way, that is merely impossible we know therefore leaving our yearning for first day of school post long Dussehra holidays...
