The Story of Bangalore Steiner School

History

A fledgling Steiner education movement had taken root in Bangalore between the years 2006 to 2009, through three initiatives running Kindergartens based on Rudolf Steiner's educational philosophy. By 2010, at the request of the parents, two of the three Kindergartens started Grade school classes with very small numbers of children. From July 2010, a group of founders, teachers and parents from these kindergartens came together, at the advice of Dr. Lakshmi Prasanna, Pediatrician & Neonatologist, founding parent of two Hyderabad Steiner schools, to join hands and efforts to start one common grade school instead.

Journey until here
Classes from the grade school set ups at two of our sister Waldorf-kindergartens, Promise Center and Kingdom of Childhood were combined in January 2011 to start Class 1 and 3 at Sristi farm with 11 students. That number went to 25 in our first full academic year 2011-12. The premises has now moved to Sompura Gate, off Sarjapura Road and for the academic year 2012-13, we have Classes 1-6 with 43 students and plan to move up a year with the oldest class from here on. In 2013-14, a Prep year will be added to make for a stronger base for 5 year olds joining the Grade school out of kindergartens.

There are 7 Steiner / Waldorf schools in India in Hyderabad, Mumbai, Goa and new initiatives blossoming in Chennai and Kolkata.
